Last night, we forgot to run the dishwasher before bed.
This meant that it had to run this morning, so it is 1pm now and I have not managed to unload the dishwasher yet
Which means the kitchen is full of breakfast dishesWhich means when the grocery delivery arrived it went on the dining room table.
It's interesting to feel the impacts of being on the wrong size of some Lazy Genius principals.
I did not do things yesterday that would have made today easier.
I went to bed too late and now I am tired
I forgot to run the dishwasher and now I'm sitting next to chaos
It's not a big deal, because at some point soon I will get off this couch and stop blogging and start tidying up.

My Taper week of running has been very taper. As in, I haven't' run since my 11 miles last weekend. Oops! I did do two strength workouts and one sprint interval training workout and some yoga. I also slept a lot this week, with a rolling average of over 8 hours.

I am on the hunt for new clothes again. Last year around this time I feel I achieved my "only clothes. I wear and love" wardrobe, and then I wore the same 5 sweaters for 6 months straight and now that it's sweater season again all my clothes feel worn and baggy.
Also, how am I supposed to pair sweaters with not-skinny jeans? How do I look chic and not frumpy in sweater-legging combos? Inquiring minds want to know.

I've been thinking about things I would spend money on if I had a million dollars (or whatever amount is enough to just spend money without thinking.) I feel I would spend a lot more on my house and I would hire an interior decorator and organizer to make it pretty and functional. Right now it's pretty functional and fine, but I would love to live in a space that brought me more visual joy rather than operational joy.
I realized as I racked my brain on what I would do with a million dollars (yes, I sang the Barenaked Ladies song by the same title!) it was mostly material stuff - I would pay someone to cook and prep food. I would pay a housekeeper to tidy up. Maybe I would move to a bigger house.
I didn't immediately think of any massive holidays I would do. I would not buy a nicer car (although I definitely would buy a electric family cargo bike!). I would like to give a bunch of money to the kids school. It would be cool to have someone come and tell me what clothes to wear and how to wear makeup and make me look put together but not uncomfortable.
I wondered, does this mean I don't value travel? Is this showing that inside I am apparently super materialistic?
Perhaps it's because I know if I wanted to do a trip somewhere I will probably do it, whether or not I have a million dollars. I don't need to have a windfall to spend money on the things I value doing, because that's how I'm spending my money already. Maybe "what would you do with windfall money" is more of a question of "What don't you value enough to want right now?"
I'm not really sure what that exercise is supposed to teach me.

I am going to officially announce that my favourite book this summer was The Other Side Of Now by Paige Harbison. On a scale from 0 to Wedding People it was close enough to Wedding People that I really really enjoyed it. It would also make a good Fall/Christmas read!
Now it's time to tidy up this messy house! What was your favourite book of the summer? What would you spend money on if you have a millionbillion dollars? Do you have a fall wardrobe or do you feel like you're constantly topping up your clothing?
If I had a bajillion dollars, I would probably book a trip to Antarctica for my family and I would maybe buy a tiny house somewhere with mountains and ocean where I could watch the sunrise over the water in the morning, hike during the day and watch the sunset in the evening. Other than that, I pretty much buy what I want already!
ReplyDeleteOh I would also love to have a holiday house! One that had all my stuff in it and I could go to whenever. Sounds great.
DeleteHi it’s Daria from momofchildren.com
ReplyDeleteDefinitely an interior decorator, finish the attic, finish the basement. Hire a professional landscaper to do a design of our property that is a wild life jungle in the back woods.
A stylist, definitely, someone to create seasonal capsule wardrobes.
A shopping spree at Bloomingdale’s or Nordstrom's for quality pieces, some staples like a nice blazer, a nice pair of boots, a theater dress or two.
I already do travel so instead of shopping at Nordstroms that is where my/our money is going.
But I admit, I do like to look good, and looking good makes me feel good. I like clothes, I like shoes. Yet at the same time I only own two pairs of sneakers. I do have about 11 sweaters.
Regarding looking frumpy… I have put together an outfit the other day that was Frumpy Mcfrumpenous. A big flower skirt that honestly could only work with a very fitted top and heels. I was wearing a T-shirt and flat sandals :/
Sweaters… depends on a sweater. Longer sweaters look good with leggings or leather pants. Thin turtleneck sweaters work with wide pants.
In terms of my wardrobe I use what I have and then purchase a piece or two when a need arises. Example: just last week I bought a winter wool coat because my winter coat aka a ski jacket is from 2016. It was time.
LOL Frumpy Mcfrumpenous! I am sure you looked great, you always look so put together. I think we share many of the dream spends as well. I don't own any turtleneck sweaters. Today was a rough day and I paired an oversized sweater with boot cut jeans which was not a good look but it was comfortable.
DeleteI think purchasing one or two new things each season is probably a great idea - clothing doesn't last forever so it's silly to think I wont need new things.
I just spent $$$ on updating my fall/winter wardrobe. I bought new shoes ($$$), four new dresses (and one summer dress that was super on sale and I couldn't resist for next year), a tunic, and a cardigan. I am hoping that all I need for the rest of the year in terms of new clothes is a new scarf or two and maybe another pair of leggings or two. I have decided that I only need 6-7 outfits for each season, but I NEED them to be outfits I love. I'm willing to spend the money, but it's crucial that each piece is perfect. We'll see how many of these things I keep and how many I send back.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a million dollars, I'd build a new garage. I'd reno our bathrooms and redo our wood floor. I'd hire someone to deal with food (meal plan and cook). And that's where my wish list ends. LOL.
You always have such great dresses! I think you are right that 6-7 outfits a season is the baseline. I always feel off during transition seasons - I used to have a great fall wardrobe and now my summer situation is actually better. Probably because I invested some time shopping for summer things. I hope your clothing order works out!
