Hello October

Hello October! I am so glad to see you!  October is possibly my FAVOURITE MONTH OF THE YEAR.

Who is this Angry gnome from Halloween 2020? It's 6 week old Lilah and 2 year old Isaac:

Or what about windswept Isaac & Lilah (3 and 1), late to the almost empty patch in 2021:

Oh what about this super casual lean from four year old Isaac and two year old Lilah in 2022?

Or how about that time in 2023 (5 year old Isaac, 3 year old Lilah) when I was 36 weeks pregnant with twins:

Anyways, I love October, and I especially love going to the pumpkin patch.

I also especially love not being heavily pregnant with twins anymore.

October is hopefully going to be a FUN and COSY month.

Big things in October:
  • Isaac turns 6! He is having a small birthday party and a SLEEPOVER with a friend he likes, a friend whose parents we like, which means I am very excited for them all to come sleep over.
  • Twins turn 1 year old.
  • Pumpkin Carving Party.  We just like having people over and we like carving pumpkins and so we are going to host a drop in pumpkin carving party.
  • My Aunt visiting from the states
  • Our nanny has a week of holiday, so I will have 3 days off work with twins again (and other kids not in school)
  • School holiday at the end of October
  • Registration opens for Cardiff Half Marathon 2025

October Goals

  • Finish room moves and get house in normal sane shape.  We are currently midway through room moves but should have the final room (MY OFFICE!) done by the end of October
  • Continue to purge clothes I don't wear.  Buy a replacement long sleeve shirt for the one that doesn't fit and the other one with the really big stain.
  • Find my lipstick, organize makeup drawer.  I had on my yearly goals to buy a good lipstick for everyday use.  I swear I bought one from Ilia and now I can't find it.  So I literally now just need to find it.  It would probably help if I didn't have a drawer that looks like this:

  • 1 Rachel thing.  October seems like a good month for a facial.  I have never had a facial, and I have a voucher for a facial, so I will try to plan in a facial.
  • Continue to progress in career by making new connections and re-establishing old ones (vague goal online but less vague IRL)
  • Visit the pumpkin patch with the family! And a local halloween event, ideally in a castle and not scary.
  • Paint my nails a halloween color. Can I pull off yellow?

October feels a bit like we are over the hump of all the transitions we needed to get through for school/work/house/life.  There are obviously lots of transitions still coming but I am keeping my fingers crossed that the groundwork of planning and logistics and changes will all pay off with a fun and easier October.

Are you excited for October?  Do you visit a pumpkin patch?

  1. Ha. It is ironic because I live in a town that attracts literal HOARDS of people for sunflower mazes and corn mazes and pumpkin patches and apple picking and I cannot think of something I want to do less. I generally don't like crowds and so I drive by all these spots almost daily - filled to the max - and shudder a bit.
So nope, no pumpkin patches for me, which is a shame because I could walk to 2 in less than 15 minutes. A missed opportunity perhaps, but I know myself well enough to realize it's just...not my thing!

I'm so excited the twins are almost 1. Wow! It passed so quickly to me...a random woman on the internet who never had to get up in the night! They are just adorable and I loved all the old years pumpkin patch pictures <3

    1. I don't think I could do a pumpkin patch with hoards of kids. I imagine it's nice to live somewhere that people visit... maybe you can get some fall feelings vicariously through everyone else.

And yes, it's exciting now that the twins are almost 1... they are definitely getting more fun and their personalities are starting to show through more and more :-)

  2. I feel very excited for October this year! It's going to be full of fun things! Love the yellow nail polish. I think I have a bottle of yellow floating around... maybe I need to try it out.

We do usually visit a pumpkin patch, and going gives me a cozy fall feeling, but it is also SUPER crowded and busy, so I don't necessarily look forward to it, if that makes sense.

Love all the photos of you and the kiddos! How fun it will be to capture the whole crew this year!

    1. Yes go for yellow polish! I don't think I could deal with a super crowded pumpkin patch. We usually go first thing but due to baby nap schedules we may be a little later this year which I am a bit worried about. Fingers crossed it will not be too busy...

Thanks, I am excited to take more fall photos, it's my favourite time of year :-)

  3. Your makeup drawer looks like #goals to me. Mine is a disaster.

My first facial, I was stunned at how relaxing it was. I had no idea. I've had two since then and enjoyed them, but that first one was revelatory.

    1. I don't really wear makeup so it's a surprising amount of makeup and drawer mess to have for something I don't use. Also, I have heard facials are amazing and it's great to hear you had that experience too. I definitely need to book mine.

  6. Oh well. Love the blog. Messy drawer not messy enough. It’s Celia.

    1. Considering I mostly don't wear makeup it seems a lot of drawer real estate for makeup. Also, I don't have many drawers. So the mess is not much but percentage-wise it's a lot!

  7. I kind of refuse to go to a pumpkin patch/ far on the weekends, but fortunately I historically have been able to take the boys to a corn maze/ pumpkin patch on a no school day (I either would take day off or a half day type thing). This was MUCH better. Still crowded sometimes with school groups from other school districts who did have school, but much better than the weekend rush! I feel like the boys are officially past wanting to go do all the "pumpkin patch" stuff, but I could probably still convince them to do the corn maze, and they really liked the nighttime Haunted Forest that we did a couple years ago! Might try to go do that again this year (but it was really scary! hahaha. So I have to get up the nerve to go back.)

    1. I think pumpkin patches are not really british and therefore not really crowded... I would not be able to deal with crowded pumpkin patches. I am way to chicken to do any haunted things, although there definitely are "haunted" castles and such around here. Maybe when the kids are bigger!
