On Thursday I went to London for a work meeting. After the meeting I decided that I would avoid the chaos of the Tube (it was a strike day, and although the Elizabeth line was running, it sounded like it might be hectic) and walk back to Paddington Station.
Actually, I first walked towards the tube, because it seemed silly to walk across London for no reason. Here is the route:
It was a bit over 4 miles. I could have caught an early train and been home in time to help with kid dinner and bedtimes and get some housework done. But also... it was so sunny, and I had planned to be in London until 6pm. Eventually I was persuaded with the thought of "If I was planning this day, rather than experiencing this day, what would I have planned?" and OBVIOUSLY I would have planned a sunny walk across london.Sometimes the effort of "doing" is way harder than it should be.
Also, it's the Cool Bloggers Walking Club over at Optimistic Musings! And I have been DIRE at walking.
Anyways, I decided to take some photos as I meandered across london
I still love old buildings
And random art in public spacesI liked this sign:
Running in London does seem awful. But running is also awful, and I sometimes love it. I realized the London Marathon was this weekend, and there was a bit of a running buzz about. This statue was on top of the entrance to Selfridges.
Selfridges looked lovely but I did not stop for any shopping.
I walked past this Ghost Bike too
Ghost bikes are put at junctions where cyclists were killed. I think it may have been for this woman - although apparently that road is very dangerous for cyclists. I took a moment to be thankful I'm walking and enjoying a sunny day and thought about how some people who do the same things I do (cycling, walking etc) can suddenly be experiencing their last day.Anyways, that got a bit deep!
And finally I caught my train home!
Overall I felt so good for having gone on such a nice sunny walk. I know walking is good and I don't really do it much because it doesn't feel "hard" like exercise but it is harder then doing nothing. Maybe I'll do the October Blogger Walking challenge...
Have you walked anywhere nice recently? The sun is finally out here which makes all the walking SO MUCH BETTER
