The big kids and I are off to France today for the weekend! This is very exciting for so many reasons, especailly because growing up in California I never thought I would go to France "for the weekend". I mean c'mon life... it's fun times.
We are going to Rennes to visit my Brother, and I'm only taking the big kids (5 & 7) and leaving Andy home with the Twins
Cardiff is really not that far from Rennes
Except Cardiff has the worst airport and so instead of the 1 hour flight to rennes we are taking a 2 hour train to London and then a 1 hour train to Gatwick airport outside of london and then a 1 hour flight to France.I am moderately worried about all th travel because if we miss this flight then the next flight to Rennes is Monday, which is the day we fly back from Rennes.
We leave Cardiff at 8:15 and should arrive at Gatwick at 11:30 and the flight is at 2:15 so I have my fingers crossed it will all work out well. Traveling is a bit stressful.
Also unfortunately the weather forecast for Rennes is not great for the weekend
And because I only thought about packing last night I didn't have a chance to buy a last minute rain coat. I have a waterproof coat that is rather snug and pocketless (it's for climbing mountains, not ambling around cities) and a waterproof coat that is heavy and giant, but I realize I sort of need a waterproof something when it's not cold and also wet (ie welsh summer)
I thought maybe this:
But its obviously too late for this trip, and what I will likely do is keep forgetting until our next trip or just forever and never buy a coat.
So I will bring green jacket from portugal and a umbrella and just hope that it's not too wet.
My plans for France are
1 - See my brother!
2 - Eat Pain Au Chocolate
3 - Walk around and look at old stuff
Also, my mom is coming with us, so this makes a ratio of 1:1 for kids to adults. I am even bringing a book! Not a laptop though, so unlikely to have any blogging during our trip, but I will certainly say hello here when I am back!

For cuteness, here are Aubrey and Clara excited to try a barbie cake (made by my mom, I am not a baker)
And here is Lily, also very excited for pink frosting:What was your last weekend trip? Do you get warm-ish rain where you are and what do you wear in warm-ish rain??

Yum Barbie cake! Why didn't we have things like that when we were kids???????
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip! If the connections don't work out, at least you'll have some fun stories to tell. It's amazing how much you can fit into a weekend trip.
The Barbie cake was apparently a recreation of a cake my mom had as a child... so I think maybe these did exist when we were kids, if we grew up in Nebraska...?
DeleteI was amazed how much we packed into a long weekend. You are the queen of the travel adventures!
Oh, here we are, it’s Sunday, and HOPEFULLY you are having a great time in Rennes! Gosh, to go to France for the weekend…sounds amazing, except for all of the grief getting there.
ReplyDeleteI’ve been to Brittany, and gosh it’s beautiful. Enjoy your brother!
Thank you! We did have an amazing time. I feel like I didn't get a good sense of Brittany but Rennes was very cool
DeleteI hope you are having a great time in France and the whole trains planes and automobiles thing worked out. Sounds like a fun weekend especially with extra hands to help with the kids.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes the 3 adults to 2 kids ratio was a pretty big shift!
