39 years ancient today (last week... because these posts take a while to write)

It was my birthday last week! Not a round number but very close.  I spent a bit of my birthday thinking about what next birthday will bring.  After two babies (and associated legit research) I know that age 2 is when women get more substantial hobbies time back. Unfortunately I will not have two year olds next year.  I will have 15 month olds.  But, I also have childcare, so I should hopefully have more Rachel time.

Anyways, this birthday had the following fun:

1 - I got a haircut!  Andy watched the twins.  They mostly slept and were hungry when I got home.  It's not a great haircut, but it's far less hair than I had and if I get the chance to flat iron it ever then it will probably look good.

2 - I bought myself bagels but the kids ate them before I could get downstairs from the babies in the morning.  However I still got to eat some delicious smoked salmon on toast.

3 - I signed up for a postnatal recovery exercise class online from a physio specializing in diastasis.  On Friday I saw the same physio in person and she ran through some exercises with me and gave me confidence to get back, as well as reminding me that I love moving my body.  I can't wait to get back into a real life class and exercise routine.

4 - Lilah and I went to Marks and Spencers and bought a birthday cake for me.  I chose red velvet.  It was OK but supermarket cake is not as good as other cake (when I'm being a cake snob).  Andy put candles on the cake and the kids sang happy birthday.
5 - While at M&S I got new underwear, because 39 is my year of owning better clothes, and underwear are clothes.  However, I got the wrong cut.  Why do I always get the wrong underwear?  Why don't I write down what cut I like and just reorder those each time?  What is the underwear between granny-pants and tiny pants?

Overall it was a nice enough birthday for having 12 week old twin babies.  I'm excited it's the last birthday I'll have with 12 week old twin babies!  Here is Lilah, getting in on some baby-photo action:

  1. Happy (Belated) Birthday! This time next year life will be feeling so different. I can't believe you're managing to blog through all this. I was just an exhausted puddle of nothingness after both kids. Yay for haircuts; those little things can make such a big difference in feeling halfway human again.

BUYING UNDERWEAR IS IMPOSSIBLE (see also bras and, for the most part, pants). That said, I did recently buy some undies at Walmart of all places that I am loving. A 3-pack of comfy black thongs (after years of various cuts, I have discovered that stretchy thongs are actually the most comfortable cut for me - sorry, I realize that has crossed the border into TMI). But no lace. Lace is the itchy devil of underwear. And I immediately used a seam ripper to take off the tags. I also used to love a particular cut of Calvin Klein undies, but they were like $20/piece and a nuisance to source.

    1. Oh how interesting you and Kae have the same prefrence in underwear! I used to love boy shorts, but I think that was when I was 17 more than 39. I'm loving the discussion, no TMI on this blog.

I'm sort of using the blog so I can remember this time. I hope I'll look back on it in a few years glad I wrote down some things. I might just look back on it in horror.

  2. Happy birthday! And I am with Elisabeth on the underwear thing- I exclusively wear super lightweight, soft thongs and have for years and years now! Never have to worry about panty lines in leggings (which I wear often….) or other pants, and no issues with them riding up or giving me a wedgie. Haha.

    1. I am skeptical but I think I will have to try after Elisabeth and your recommendations! I always assumed they would ride up, and I wear leggings a lot too so if they get your approval then this might be the magic I'm looking for!

  3. I am team bikini briefs, which I think may be the combo child of the thong and the granny panty. However, even briefs differ; one brief is not always the same as another. AND like running shoes, when the update the style, it is not always for the best! I hope that you had a great birthday and maybe even had another restful(ish) day this weekend too!

    1. You are right about the updated style! I think I'm ordered the same underwear I always have but they've changed the cut in the last 10 years.

    1. I have ordered a set of briefs now to see - although I understand the argument for comfy thongs I just think it will feel weird. I'm a full cover kind of person haha!

  5. Happy Belated birthday! I had smoked salmon for lunch today...bread, butter, smoked salmon, capers, red onion. If only I had had some nice tomato, it would have been perfect.

    1. Oh that does sound perfect! I always forget to add capers and red onion but I have both in the fridge!

  6. Cute photo! In the us at least, bikini cut is the stage between granny and tiny. Or maybe it's briefs? Boyshorts i always found the legs rolled up so what's the point. -rachel

  7. Happy belated birthday. I am glad you got away for some pampering at the hair salon, but I am sorry about the bagels (at least there was lox! ;)).
